Kickoff of the Wine Festival Season on the Moselle
May gets you in the mood for summer, and with it comes the start of the wine festival season on the Moselle. Each of the Moselle wine festivals has its own charm, and visitors can look forward to an experience that appeals to all the senses. The festivals offer both relaxation and entertainment, with a rich program ranging from wine tastings and culinary experiences to musical highlights.
Wine, music, and culinary delights promise a unique experience
The Roman Wine Route Festival will kick off the annual open-air wine season from May 3 to 5 for the first time at a new venue in front of the swimming pool in Schweich. In a “wine village” consisting of 16 pagoda tents, the winemakers of the Roman Wine Route will present their wines and local products. The “Open Wine Cellar Days” also draw thousands of guests and locals to the wineries in May. Here, visitors can experience the charm of a winery up close, tour wine cellars, and enjoy wine directly from the producer. Stories about winemaking and country life are shared by the winemakers free of charge.
The wine events “Ruwertaler Frühling” and “Weinlagenfest” invite you right into the heart of the vineyards. From May 3 to 5, the Senheimer Lay and Mesenicher Goldgrübchen vineyard sites will offer regional specialties—such as products made from red vineyard peaches and Moselle honey—to accompany Moselle wine. Two “biodiversity hotspots” invite visitors to explore the vineyards. Under the theme “Ruwertaler Frühling” on May 19, 13 wineries will serve their wines between Mertesdorf and Kasel, offering a magnificent panoramic view of the Ruwer Valley.
During the major wine weekend “Mythos Mosel” from May 24 to 26, visitors can enjoy wines from 124 wineries and experience the spectacular wine-growing landscape of the Moselle Valley. Along a 25-kilometer stretch of the Middle Mosel, from the wine villages of Ürzig to Briedel, producers from across the entire wine-growing region will offer tastings of their wines at 31 stations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 30 hosting wineries are joined by 90 guest winemakers from the Saar and Ruwer regions all the way to the Terraced Mosel. The rule is simple: pay a single admission fee and enjoy casual tastings at all stations.
The Koblenz Wine Festival is one of the city’s most popular events, and from May 3 to July 4, selected winemakers will present their finest wines at around 20 events. Events such as Electronic Wine, the Blue Hour, and Wine on the Water offer wine lovers the opportunity to get to know and appreciate Koblenz and the surrounding wine regions better. During the opening weekend from May 3 to 5, visitors to Willi-Hörter-Platz around the Schängelbrunnen fountain can look forward to a colorful program featuring wine and music.
