Castles along the Moselle and Saar

High above the Saar and the Moselle, castles stand like stone sentinels. You can reach them on foot through steep vineyards with ancient dry stone walls and shady woods. Where families of knights once ruled, lizards now scurry across the ruins and stonecrop takes over the joints. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of the river valley and the surrounding hills.

Some tower high above the Mosel, whilst others were built to guard roads in side valleys and are therefore somewhat hidden away. Some castles have been converted into holiday homes for wealthy citizens and businesspeople who wanted to feel like noble knights. So every castle tells its own unique story!
