Shady forest trails, narrow footbridges over the Steinbachgraben in the Plattener Schweiz, and the story of the Plattener Däwels are just a few of the spectacular highlights that make for a delightful hiking experience during the 2026 Südeifel Hiking Week.
The guided hike along the Plattener P3 Loop Trail, which is about 7.5 km long, successfully combines cultural and hiking experiences. It reveals interesting facts about winegrowing in the Liesertal Valley, and knowledgeable guides entertain participants with traditional stories about the Plattener Däwel. The hike begins on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Görgen Winery in Platten. The route winds through the impressive “Plattener Schweiz” landscape along unspoiled forest trails and narrow footbridges over and along the Steinbachgraben, continues along a section of the Lieserpfad, and returns to the village alongside the famous Mosel tributary. The wine shop and the Winzerhofcafé at the Winzerhof Görgen are the destinations for a group stop to enjoy a hearty serving of Plattener Teufelsbraten. Tickets will be available starting in late August at www.ticket-regional.de

The starting point of the guided loop hike is the Görgen Winery in Platten. From here, the trail first leads into the “Plattener Schweiz.” The unspoiled forest paths and narrow footbridges over the Steinbachgraben are among the most beautiful highlights of the fourth stage of the Lieserpfad, from Wittlich to the Moselle. Following the P3 hiking trail, the route soon continues alongside the Lieser River; it crosses the Maare-Mosel Bike Path and, passing by the water level station, heads back to the wine-growing village for a group stop at the Görgen Winery.
The narrow, root-strewn forest trails in Plattener Schweiz require sure-footedness, non-slip footwear, and walking sticks for support on the uphill and downhill sections.
Poles are recommended to assist with uphill and downhill sections.
Plattener's "Devil's Spice" is also available as a souvenir to take home—a unique taste experience that brings back memories.
