The route leads from Reil towards Marienburg, passing the Drieschhütte, the Ehrenfriedhof, the lookout tower on the Prinzenkopf to the saddle at Barl. Along this section, there are great views of Reil, Pünderich, and Briedel. The return route via Marienburg, Haus Waldfrieden, Dünwaldhütte, Leofelsen, Reiler Hals runs mostly through forest and offers views of Merl, Bullay, Alf, and Arras Castle.

From the start, follow the signage for route R6 and after crossing the railway line, stay on the paved road. After a short ascent, turn right onto an unpaved path until you reach another paved road. Follow this to the left until the first junction to the left. This path leads about 2 km to the Drieschhütte, a beautiful viewpoint. The hut is open during the hiking season. Another 600 meters further is the Ehrenfriedhof Pünderich. From there, a path through the forest leads to the lookout tower on the Prinzenkopf. The route continues towards Marienburg. After about 200 meters, the road forks and the route turns right. After one kilometer, turn left to the saddle at Barl and then another 100 meters, turn left again up to the Marienburg. 200 meters behind Marienburg, on the left you will find a path leading through the forest to Haus Waldfrieden. From there, continue under Haus Waldfrieden to a junction at the parking lot above Alf. From there, continue straight ahead to the Dünwaldhütte. Behind the Dünwaldhütte, follow the signpost to the Leofelsen. From there, through the forest over the Reiler Hals back to Reil.
Be careful when crossing the railway tracks in Reil; the level crossing is not barriered.
Don’t forget your camera. The entire route offers fantastic views of the Moselle valley.
