The route is classified as easy to moderate. With breaks, you should allow 3 hours. The path initially runs through the gently rising terrain of the Brauneberg vineyard site up to the forest area of the Rudemberg. After crossing the flat forest area, the hiker reaches a small but steep descent leading to the viewing platform of the Thörnicher Ritsch climbing path. From this location, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Mosel valley at Thörnich and Ensch. The return path to Bekond runs above the Kahlbach on the vineyard paths of the Thörnicher Ritsch and Brauneberg. The path is signposted with “R8”.

Thörnicher Ritsch → The Thörnicher Ritsch is one of the most renowned vineyards on the Mosel. The name Ritsch derives from the crumbly gray slate of the site, with rocks continually sliding into the valley. Due to the crumbly rocks, land consolidation with path construction can only be carried out with great difficulty in the Ritsch, as the steep terrain would cause the paths to slip. We only acquired our vineyard in the Ritsch in 1995. The vines grow on the slope into small terraces. The vineyard is classified as a first-class site in the 1868 classification and by Pigott and Johnson. A characteristic feature of the Ritsch is the enormous fruit aromas with a mineral structure. Citrus, lychee, and passion fruit are found in the aroma of the wines.
