Circular route Altrich (A1)

The circular hike starts in the village center at the bus stop in Andreasstraße. Following the A1 marker, hiking is possible in both directions. During our tour, we started via the street "Schneidkaul" heading towards "Dicke Eiche". After about one kilometer, the impressive natural monument is reached. The old pedunculate oak with its magnificent crown is around 300 years old and has a considerable trunk circumference of over 6.45 m. Since 1938, the Dicke Eiche has been under nature protection and is considered the Altrich landmark. Benches made from thick wooden trunks invite you to take a short break with a wonderful panoramic view. The circular route leads over the heights via the paved service road and beautiful field and forest paths past some crossroads, first into the district of Büscheid. The route then goes downhill via Büscheider Weg to Andreasstraße, which leads uphill back to the start.

Brief description

The small, 8 km long round route around Altrich is marked in both directions as "A1" and leads past the natural monument "Dicke Eiche", across meadows and fields with beautiful views.

Approach

Motorways A1/A48, exit Wittlich-Mitte, continue via B50 towards Wengerohr. At the first roundabout, first exit, right onto L53, at the second roundabout, straight ahead on L53 to the center of Altrich.

Parking

Free parking is available at the community center in Schulstraße.

Directions

From the bus stop in Andreasstraße, the circular route is marked in both directions with a black A and a black 1 on a white background. During our hike, we left Altrich via the street "Schneidkaul" heading towards "Dicke Eiche". The paved service road runs along fields and meadows, partly through the forest, and then turns right towards the Altrich shelter onto an unpaved field path. At the height of the shelter, the path goes uphill to the left. The circular route runs over the heights and through the district of Büscheid, the route continues along Büscheider Weg and Andreasstraße back to the starting point in the village center.

Safety instructions

There are some uphill and downhill sections that are better managed with walking sticks.

Equipment

Shoes with a good tread, walking sticks if necessary, and packed food.

Tips

A walk to the Altrich landmark "Dicke Eiche" is perfect for a family outing. The paved service road is suitable for strollers.
