The Wittlicher Säubrenner connecting path between Dreis and Hupperath is continuously marked in both directions. From Dreis, the connecting path initially follows the signage of the Dreiser Orchideenweg, along the castle park over the "Eselspiedchen" it steadily ascends until it meets the paved service road. It continues to the right along the service road, through the forest, past the Werthelstein. The Werthelstein (also known as Werdelstein, Wedelstein or Würstelstein, dialectally Werdelsteen) is an impressive quartzite rock block, about two by three meters in cross-section. It stands on the boundary, which here crosses the old path from Bergweiler to Dreis. The following names are associated with the stone: Wurtelstein, Werdelstein, and Wirtelstein. The term Wirtel (=disc or ball made of clay, stone, or metal, which served as a flywheel for the spindle and has been used since the Neolithic) refers according to tradition to a spinner sitting and spinning in the rock. Also very amusing is the dialect poem D'Pitta von Berchweiler un dat Drääsa Frai'chen by Eduard Eltges, which describes a nocturnal encounter with a ghost at the Werthelstein, a real ghost story. Near the Werthelstein is an old tunnel in the rock, the Erzloch. In the former ore mine, ore-bearing rock was mined. The Wittlicher Säubrenner connecting route continues uphill to the small Eifel community of Bergweiler. Bergweiler is crossed, and on the height of the sports facilities the forest is left. The A60 motorway is tunnelled under, continuing through the Dachslöcher nature reserve. The Dachslöcher nature reserve near Bergweiler is the smallest nature reserve in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The 0.9 ha area was placed under nature protection in 1986 and extends north of the Eifel community of Bergweiler. The conservation purpose is the preservation of a nutrient-poor stillwater area with its silting-up zones in a former gravel pit area as habitat for rare and endangered animal and plant communities. Soon Hupperath is reached. Here the Wittlicher Säubrenner connecting path meets the Eifelsteig Erlebnis loop Säubrennerroute on Bergweilerstraße.
