The Eifelsteig Experience Loop Mühlen on Lieser and Salm connects the hiking trails Eifelsteig and Lieserpfad and offers unrestricted hiking enjoyment at every step. Starting/ending in Wittlich city and country with an overnight stay, the route is ideal as a small hiking break. The Mühlen route impresses with diverse nature experiences. It runs along dreamy rivers, natural narrow paths wind through dense forests, and beautiful field and meadow paths with many viewpoints complete the unique hiking experience. Highlights of the Eifel tour are the Cistercian Abbey Himmerod and 11 former, historic water mills on Lieser and Salm. With two day stages of 18 km each and an overnight stay, the Eifelsteig motto "Where rock and water accompany you" becomes tangible with body and soul. The connecting path via Großlittgen offers the opportunity to hike the Mühlenroute in 2 days on two attractive circular routes.
The Eifelsteig Experience Loop Mühlenroute can be divided into two varied day routes via the 7.8 km long connecting path from Himmerod to Schladter Brücke.
Wittlich has two motorway junctions: Wittlich West A 60, Wittlich Mitte A 1 / A 48. From Wittlich, head towards the sports center at Bürgerwehr, then continue via district road K54 to the turnoff towards Minderlittgen/Großlittgen. Continue via state road L 34 to Großlittgen. In the village, follow the signs towards Himmerod, continue on L 34 to the Himmerod monastery/car park.

From the car park at the monastery, head first across the street towards the monastery church. The connecting path follows the Eifelsteig alongside the Salm stream, along the fish ponds. Near the quarry, after about 3.5 km, the connecting path leaves the long-distance trail and leads to Großlittgen (about 5 km). The small Eifel community is left via Schladter Straße. After another roughly 3 km across meadows and fields and through dense forest, the hiking car park at the "Schladter Brücke" is reached.
Hiking on the Eifelsteig and the Meulenwald route is characterized by trails over natural paths, which naturally become slippery in rainy weather. We recommend hiking shoes with a good tread and hiking poles, which provide security on downhill sections.

The connecting path creates two beautiful day routes on the Eifelsteig. Starting points of the circular routes are Himmerod, Großlittgen, Wittlich or Hupperath.
