Germany's most beautiful hiking route 2019
The hiking route leads from Ulmen to Cochem directly along the Endertbach and is a insider tip for all who want to see pristine nature, narrow footpaths, wooden bridges, plenty of forest, a naturally winding little river, and old mills. Some of these are now privately owned. The Goebelsmühle, which lies on the route, invites you to stop and rest.
The wild romantic Endert valley is one of the most impressive side valleys of the Mosel. After heavy rains, the Endertbach transforms from a gentle stream into a true wild brook. It winds its way through a rugged valley section with impressive flora and fauna until it flows into the Mosel in Cochem.
A truly original natural experience is offered by a hike through the valley of the "Wilde Endert". The namesake brook, along whose banks once 34 mills did their work, represents the wild romantic side valley of the Mosel.

The hiking route begins at the Crusader Castle in Ulmen. Over the Ulmener Martberg and the Karolinerweg, it leads to the Maria Martental Monastery. Past the church, we soon follow the valley down along the Sesterbach, at its confluence with the Endertbach. A footbridge crosses this stream, which here falls about 7m deep in a waterfall called "Die Rausch"; it is a remarkable natural monument. The hiking path is now marked with a black arrowhead, which we initially follow on a wide forest path. This leads us to the "Napoleonsbrücke" over which the old Koblenz-Trier post road ran. After about 200m, the country road is left via a path that branches off to the left toward the brook.
This begins the part of the valley called the "Wilde Endert". Our walk now goes up and down rocky paths, past gorge-like slate rocks, and several times on footbridges over the brook, on which the former mills Maxmehrmühle, Browelsmühle, Bücheler Mühle, Goebelsmühle, Ostersmühle, Thönnesgensmühle, Schneidersmühle, and Weißmühle lie. Some of these mills have been renovated in a historically appropriate style and are inhabited again. From the hotel "Weißmühle" we follow the road to the hotel "Winneburg" and continue along the road to Carlfritz-Nicolay Platz in Cochem. In Cochem, a visit to the Reichsburg is worthwhile.

Good footwear and weatherproof clothing are required for the hike.
A walk through the romantic Mosel town of Cochem with its half-timbered houses and a visit to the Reichsburg are cultural highlights of this route. With a glass of Mosel wine, we end a varied day.
