On the heights of the Saargau between Portz and Kahren you have magnificent panoramic views of the Saar-Hunsrück region. In Trassem, the path leads past the fishing pond with the fisher hut (refreshment possibility) and you can discover the diversity of the Trassem forest experience center with teaching and information hut, forest arena, forest workshop, numerous information pavilions, forest experience trails, bee information stand with bee hotel, and more.
This circular hiking trail starts and ends at Hotel St. Erasmus and leads through idyllic forests, past several streams, and through the villages of Trassem, Portz, and Kahren.

Free parking is available at the Leuk, at the end of Saarburger Straße heading towards Freudenburg.
Start Hotel St. Erasmus (https://www.st-erasmus.de) – up Kirchstraße – at the edge of the forest turn right, continue on the forest path Schinkenheide and Lohheid – over the Knüppelbrück (Sprenkelbach) – continue right on the district road K121 – turn right at the sports field uphill to the fishing pond – go left past the fishing pond – after approx. 600 m turn left – forest path uphill to Portz – in Portz pass the fountain and at the chapel/cemetery turn right uphill on the asphalted path towards Kahren – pass the source of the Kehrbach (fountain below the hairpin turn) – pass the Altfuchshof cheese dairy – in Kahren turn right into Portzer Straße – pass the barn (with resting possibility) and the small chapel towards Saarburg – after about 150 m before the crossing turn right onto the agricultural path – at the fork at Gebrannter Berg keep right and go down to the Kahrener Bahnhof shelter (resting possibility) – from the shelter go straight ahead (right forest path) over Hofheid towards Trassem, Im Görgental – in Görgental turn right – pass the forest hut “Raupe Nimmersatt” – turn right uphill over Lumpenkaul – at the top change to the asphalted path, keep left there – at the hunting lodge turn left from the asphalted path onto the forest path to the forest experience center – at the forest experience center (resting possibility) – narrow path down to the fisher hut (refreshment possibility) – path over Mühlenwäldchen uphill again to the bee information stand (resting possibility) – path behind the beehives towards Kehrbachstraße – down over Kobenschleidchesberg to the intersection Saarburger Str./Kehrbachstr. – over Saarburger Str. and Sprenkelbach bridge back to the starting point
Please remember to wear sturdy shoes and bring sufficient backpack provisions.
Please note that this hike is not a certified premium trail and there is no continuous signage of the route. Furthermore, parts of the trail run on asphalted farm roads and not on narrow paths.
