Beautiful, not continuously marked, circular hike through the 2012 Forest of the Year, the Meulenwald, with many varied sights along the route. Behind Dodenburg, the dreamy Bendersbach valley is crossed, with the first of many mineral springs along the path bubbling nearby. In Heckenmünster, it is worth taking a short look into the parish church, which you pass directly by. The route continues through the quiet village center. The impressive village fountain with the spring god recalls the Roman spring sanctuary around the Schwefelquelle Wallenborn. The well-known mineral springs Viktoria and Schwefelquelle just behind Heckenmünster are further highlights of the route. In the charming Eifel village Dierscheid, a short break is recommended in the beer garden of the Berggeist coffee barn. From here, the route leads past the village museum and church back to Dodenburg.

From the starting point in Dodenburg/Schloßstraße, the route goes downhill via Karl-Kaufmann-Weg into the Bendersbach valley. Those who wish can make a detour to the mineral spring, which bubbles directly at the Bendersbach a few meters further on the left, accessible via a staircase. The circular hike continues at the junction to the right through the Bendersbach valley, over the bridge, then a short, fairly steep ascent over the meadow, passing the Catholic parish church Heiligkreuz in Heckenmünster. At the junction, keep left past the village fountain, then turn right out of town into the forest. Continue through the forest to the crossroads, further along the hiking trail Im Meulenwald to the Viktoria spring, straight ahead, then turn right following the signpost to Schwefelquelle. From the Schwefelquelle, continue back onto the hiking trail, now turn left, about 1.5 km through the Meulenwald, always follow the signs. Continue towards Dierscheid. In the village, opposite the fountain in the coffee barn, there is the possibility to take a short break with a delicious piece of cake and/or a freshly tapped beer. Past the village museum and the church, the route leads back to the starting point in Dodenburg via local hiking trails. We recommend using hiking map No. 24 of the Eifelverein "Wittlicher Land" for the hike, as this circular hike is not consistently marked with its own logo. Various hiking paths are used, each with different markings. To complete the route without detours, the hiking map and/or a printout of the Outdooractive map is very helpful.
