Along the loop trail, you’ll find brief information about each location. You can easily download more detailed information and an audio file on these topics using a QR code. The audio file can also be played on the Outdooractive map at the respective waypoints and begins with the information in Standard German, followed by the local dialect.
The starting and ending point of the Historical Loop Trail is the hiking parking lot at the sports field in Osburg. Here, an information sign indicates the individual locations along the trail.
The trail can be walked in either direction.
The trail runs almost entirely on paved paths, making it suitable for a wide variety of hikers.
Explore the Historical Trail on a walking tour that takes you about 5.7 km to interesting sites related to the village’s history—in and around Osburg.
From the hiking parking lot at the sports field in Osburg, the trail leads toward the village center to the first stop on Bergstraße. Continuing downhill, we stop at the former forester’s house at Station 2. Continuing down Bergstraße, we turn right above the Blau Bakery onto the small path that leads us to the other stations at the cemetery and the church.
We reach the former youth center (formerly a boys’ school) after a short detour to the opposite side of Klemensstraße. Then we turn back and continue along the trail toward Place Velars (market square). Here we’ll find plenty of information about the local community’s partnership with Velars-sur-Ouche and about the next stop, Haus Millisch.
Walking through Oberstraße and Engweg, we come to the next stop—the clubhouse of the MGV Osburg. From there, we turn right onto Unterstraße and follow the signs to the left onto Brunnenstraße, then continue along Unter Wiesloch Street to the next stop, which focuses on Osburg’s springs and streams.
The trail then leads out of town until, at kilometer 2.2, we reach the stop featuring the “Geissenhäuschen” in the forest and, another 600 meters further on, the stop at the Roman villa on Longkamp.
Passing below the multipurpose hall, the trail leads back into town. Here, we turn immediately left onto Unterm Bautel Street and, at the end of the street, left onto Klemensstraße. After about 200 m, we reach the former municipal forester’s lodge on the right.
We continue along Hochwaldstraße to the final stop at the Celtic burial mounds around Osburg. From there, the trail follows the Osburg Panorama Trail back to the hiking parking lot at the sports field.
The path is mostly paved. Please be aware that in case of ice and slippery conditions, winter maintenance services are not available everywhere.
