Discover the vibrant world of Moselle vineyards on a round trip through the vineyard "Wehlener Sonnenuhr". In collaboration with the winemakers, a special diversity of insects develops here amidst the vineyards with butterflies, wild bees, wall lizards, and many more. The insect species trail is also an access path to the well-known Moselsteig.

Besides great views over the Moselle valley, many fascinating pieces of information about nature await you. On a total of 14 habitat posts, you will find exciting facts about the diverse plant and animal world of the vineyard. If you wish, you can also access the information as an audio file via a QR code on your mobile phone and listen to the stories. Numerous habitats for insects have been created along the path – such as habitat towers, insect hotels, and flower meadows. Especially in the summer months, there is a colorful activity in the vineyard and many animals to discover.
Along this beautiful hike through the famous vineyard Wehlener Sonnenuhr, there is much to discover – colorful wildflowers, bees, and butterflies are constant companions.
From Bernkastel-Kues follow the L47 in the Kues district towards Koblenz to Wehlen.

On the Moselle riverbank in Wehlen
The hike starts near the old church in Wehlen and then takes you across the suspension bridge to the other side of the Moselle. The suspension bridge is unique on the Moselle and was inaugurated in 1949. After arriving on the other side, you go uphill on a small path into the vineyard. For the rest of the route, you hike through the vineyard, passing numerous insect hotels, habitat towers, information boards, and flower vineyards. Exciting information about the animal and plant world awaits you again and again. You can listen to the stories using the QR codes on the information posts. Once you reach the vineyards above, a rest at the Wehlener vineyard hut is recommended. From here, you can enjoy a great view of the Moselle valley and the surrounding vineyards. From here you also have direct access to the well-known Moselsteig (stage 11), which runs above the vineyards. Otherwise, you can now follow the circular path back to Wehlen.
