right at the starting point by the sports field.A second starting point is located in Konz-Krettnach at the community center. There is ample parking available there.
Don’t miss the detour to the lookout point at the Höhtkopf monument. At the monument itself (a war memorial), you’ll have a 180° panoramic view, which you should enjoy while sitting on the benches or at the rest area. For this panorama alone, you should bring binoculars to get an even better look at the many Eifel mountains on the horizon.
Back on the Seitensprung Loop, the trail descends steeply until just before the B 268. The short stretch along the farm road parallel to the street is quickly covered, and soon you’ll be on a winding path through open scrub and hedgerow country. The section through the bushes is short and ends—as befits this trail—at a bench with a view of the Konzer Tälchen. The Konzer district of Krettnach and the surrounding vineyards are visible, as is a section of the trail ahead.
The trail first leads along a road at the same elevation into the forest, but soon turns onto a path that descends steeply. Through a dry valley, you’ll reach the first vineyards of Krettnach. The trail continues downhill toward the village, but then veers onto the southern side of the valley. The meadow path runs along the edge of the forest for quite a distance with a gentle gradient. Here you’ll reach the turnoff to Krettnach. If you’d like, you can descend into the village via the marked access trail.
Now comes the trail’s first ascent. At first, you’ll pass through the vineyards, then follow a path through the forest. The incline is very steady, so you can find your own hiking rhythm. The effort is well worth it, though, because a magnificent panorama awaits you at the top in an open meadow.
The trail slopes gently downward past the memorial cross at Karlskopf and on to the transmission tower. Here, the character of the trail changes. The path leads downhill through an oak forest, around a side valley, and then steeply downhill until you reach the edge of the vineyards. Here you’ll find a rest area with a view of the Konzer Tälchen valley and the vineyards. From the new panoramic swing near the chapel in Oberemmel, you can relax and enjoy the magnificent panorama. At the Karlskopf Panorama Hut, a cozy spot with a wine fridge invites you to linger and enjoy the moment.
The following stretch alternates between various vineyard paths, constantly offering new perspectives on the vineyard landscape. The ascent begins at the Oberemmel Marian Chapel. The trail is quite steep at first until you reach the edge of the forest. To catch your breath, take a moment to look back at the Konzer Tälchen valley.
Along the edge of the forest and later inside the woods, the incline remains moderate. It only gets steeper after you’ve circled around a side valley. The trail through the Douglas fir forest then leads directly up the mountain without any major detours. At the top, you’ll reach the Schanzenhütte Pellingen. The shelter also has barbecue facilities. From here, it’s just a few meters to the parking lot at the sports field, where the side trip ends.
