With the RegioRadler Moseltal, for example, you can almost have the bus accompany you on a bike tour along the Moselle shore. Between Trier and Bullay, the bus line of Moselbahn follows the Moselle course passing through Ruwer, Schweich, Mehring, Leiwen, Neumagen, Bernkastel-Kues, and Traben.
Up to 22 bicycles can be transported in the bike trailer. The three daily rides in each direction are available morning, noon, and afternoon, making half-day tours conveniently possible. Along the RegioRadler Moseltal, you have connections at many locations to the Moselle route Trier – Koblenz, in Trier to train routes in all directions, and in Bullay to the Mosel wine railway heading to Traben-Trarbach.

For a friendly warm-up on an almost flat vineyard path, we leave Leiwen and reach route 4 amidst the vineyards. The path turns - for a short stretch identical to route 3 - above the stream valley towards the forest, upon reaching which you say goodbye to route 3 with a short downhill left and tackle the climb through the steep vineyard slope. Past the vineyard chapel, you soon reach the upper edge of the vineyards and follow the path between them and the forest. Over a saddle, the path leads into the slope above Leiwen and leads to the Panorama swimming pool and then to the Zummeter Höhe . Here you enjoy the famous view over the Moselle loop before descending into the Trittenheim vineyards and crossing them in the direction of Konstantinhöhe. On the new vineyard road, you descend to the Moselle and follow the bike path to Trittenheim . You cross the town through the center toward the Trittenheim vineyard chapel, from where a longer climb on asphalt follows to the height.
Between field hedges and vineyards, you ride "high level" over the Moselle to the split with
Route 4 , which subsequently offers the view of the Moselle high above the valley on the hillside edge (2.2 km, climb: 67 m, descent: 91 m), and
Route 4+ , which leads us past a natural monument (oak group) over the fields and finally loops back through abandoned gravel pits and mixed forests into the vineyards above the Moselle tributary Salm. (5.4 km, climb: 133 m, descent: 158 m).
A descent follows to the outskirts of Klüsserath (entry Klüsserath) . After crossing the district road towards Rivenich, a short single-trail downhill leads down into the Salm floodplains, which you enjoy riding uphill. You then cross the stream and leave the valley floor into the vineyards opposite, through which you fight your way up to reach the forest of Thörnich on the height after crossing a district road on level ground. At its edge, you approach the famous vineyard site "Thörnicher Ritsch". An overwhelming view of the Ensch golf course and the "different" Moselle valley compensates for the efforts of the previous ascent. On the steep slope overhanging the Moselle, a single trail leads down, which with a sharp right turn leads back uphill out of the forest into the vineyards and from there down on asphalt into the Kautenbach valley. There, the state road with heavy traffic (caution!) greets us. Following the road downhill, you reach the Thörnich bridge, which takes us across the Moselle and hands over to the care of the Moselle bike path on the opposite bridgehead. You follow this about 500 m upstream on the Moselle, turn left into the vineyards, and ride the shortest way back to Leiwen.
Nature and Mountain Biking
It is the greatest joy for mountain bikers to enjoy the beauty of nature and landscape, the silence of the forests, and the variety of open countryside far from the traffic noise of busy roads, even away from heavily frequented cycling paths.
Using nature, whether alone as a touring cyclist or as part of a training group, must be coupled with the awareness that misbehavior can cause damage to forests and fields, flora, and fauna.
Reasonable general conduct and a few basic rules ensure that mountain biking does not become a nuisance.
