The start and end of the circular hiking trail is the village square in Brey. Here you will find sufficient parking facilities.

Starting from the central village square with ample parking facilities and a large information board, the panoramic route ascends on its first stretch through the historic center of Brey. Accompanied by half-timbered houses, you quickly leave the settlement area of the 1200-year-old village heading south. Via well-walkable paths and trails once used for agriculture, you reach the first rest stop. Halfway up, right at the forest edge above the outliers of old orchards, the Marksburgblick hut offers a fantastic view of the castle of the same name on the opposite Rhine bank.

Through a shady forest section along the Hastelbachtal, you gain moderate elevation and reach the high plateau above Brey. From the Christkopf height, the hiker is rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over the southern outskirt of the village far into the open World Heritage Valley. Just a few hundred meters following the path northward opens another panoramic view along the Rhine with a distant view up to Koblenz, 10 km away. The first downhill section skirts the next rest area at the pavilion above the Breyer Bachtal, from where you can enjoy the village and the Middle Rhine Valley from another perspective. Following the panoramic route through the forest, you soon reach the archaeological monument of the Roman aqueduct in Brey. This approximately 2000-year-old tunnel, several hundred meters long and still carrying water today, can be explored further at the visitor portal. In the hollow of the Breyer Bachtal, the panoramic route winds up a short switchback to the middle vineyard path, which leads you over a gently sloping, grass-covered path to the western outskirts of Brey. One last panoramic view over gardens, meadows, and fields rewards you before you, full of impressions, are guided back to Rheingoldstraße, the starting point of the circular route.

For your own safety and to protect flora and fauna, please always stay on the marked paths. The hiking trail has some steep, difficult, and slippery sections when it rains or in winter weather. Therefore, surefootedness and good fitness are essential prerequisites.

NOTE:

We strive to announce any closures caused by forestry operations or hunting groups on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the signs for your own safety.

Hazard situations:

In case of an emergency, prompt help is required. And even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, the classic rescue points are often the fastest way. These are located at places accessible to rescue vehicles. Remember the points marked with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign at your emergency call. This way, rescuers will know where to find you.

- Sturdy and comfortable footwear.

- Weather-appropriate clothing, possibly in layers.

- Backpack with provisions: Enough to drink and possibly food, as refreshments or shopping options are not available or open everywhere.

- Depending on the weather, sun or rain protection, as well as insect/tick repellent.
