The roughly 17 km long Pfarrsteig connects the charming Eifel villages of Greimerath, Willwerscheid, and Hasborn. Along the carefully selected route are many historically significant wayside shrines and crosses, countless lovingly designed small chapels, and open village churches – in short, spiritual places of power with historical authenticity. The small anecdotes, told with a smile in local dialect about the authentic stories of human fate from past centuries, combined with the varied landscape of the Vulkaneifel, create a memorable hiking experience with a meditative character. Also unmistakable is the marking symbol of the "Pfarrsteig": it shows the initial letters "Pf" of the circular path, stylized as a church tower with sky and sun, combined with a winding path. The Pfarrsteig Greimerath is especially recommended as an introduction and preparation for long pilgrimages, such as on the Camino de Santiago.
Hiking on the "Pfarrsteig" from the parsonage and herb garden in Greimerath grounds the soul and enchants the senses with lively streams and centuries-old, spiritual places of power.
From the parsonage and herb garden, the route initially goes through St. Georg Street towards the village center. At the village square, the trail logo points the way: a meadow path leads uphill, passing the community center on the left. Via the streets "Auf der Hütt" and "Hohlwiespfad," the lovingly maintained Antonius chapel is reached. From the chapel, continue first left along Antonius Way. At the intersection with Grünewald Street, the Pfarrsteig turns left into Grünewald Street and follows it to the edge of town. Here, turn right onto a field path. Over meadow and field paths with impressive views, continue to Heiligenborn. The forest path leading left goes further towards Grünewald chapel. About 150 m before reaching the chapel, the Pfarrsteig turns left onto a trail (after approx. 1.95 km) that passes the former V1 launch ramp up to the L52 state road. The state road is crossed and the forest accompanies the Pfarrsteig to "Wein" Street, K25, where the A1/A48 motorway is crossed. 100 m after the bridge, turn sharply left into the forest, then right at the hunting stand and follow the marking. Soon the lively stream is crossed using a tree trunk. Shortly afterward, the barely recognizable remains of the former French munitions depot are passed. Upon reaching the district road K26 (after about 5 km), Willwerscheid is already visible. The steeple of Donatus Church points the way. The Pfarrsteig follows the village street down for about 100 m, then leads over a meadow path, first left, then right into the valley of the Hölzerbach and to the copper mine "Neuglück." Here the hiking trail changes sides of the stream and follows the Hölzerbach to the Sammetbach. Shortly after crossing the stream, turn left and be careful not to miss the turn left again to the Sammetbach bridge. Through the idyllic Sammetbach valley, continue until the Hasborn/Niederscheidweiler intersection. The Pfarrsteig turns right and then continues straight over the wide forest path to the "Hasborner Mühle" fork. Continue on the left-hand side over the "Müllenpedchen" to the outskirts of Hasborn. Via the street "Am Bahnhof," continue to the community center; here turn towards the new church. At the church, turn right to the main street, cross it, and continue straight over the "Obersten Acker," then right down Rochus Way to the old Rochus church (approx. 12.4 km). Here the village street leads through a hollow path to the Trinity chapel. At the Trinity chapel, please keep right. After crossing the motorway, turn left. A few meters further, turn right, pass a sheep pasture, and at the next fork turn left into the forest. At the end of the path, the Pfarrsteig crosses the Lambach to the left. Continue on the right-hand side with the marking to the wayside cross. The Pfarrsteig first leads left and shortly thereafter right onto the steep pilgrim path of the Matheis pilgrim way (approx. 13.9 km). Then continue along the forest edge until the Maare-Mosel cycle path is crossed. Now keep left and soon go straight ahead. Soon the Pfarrsteig leads left uphill; upon reaching the top, turn right over the meadow path towards the steeple back to the parsonage and herb garden in Greimerath.
Hiking on the Pfarrsteig is characterized by its attractive routing over partly natural trails, which can become slippery in rainy weather. We recommend hiking shoes with a good tread and hiking poles which provide security on downhill sections.
