A nice tour on good paths through the vineyards of the Central Moselle. The best way to get back is by boat: study the shipping plans beforehand!Insights into the hiking tour:From Osann-Monzel via Kesten to Piesport or vice versa, the hiking trail offers wonderful views of towns, vineyards and the Moselle. Highlights of the tour are the Quereinhäuser in Monzel, the water treading basin in Kesten, the view of the Wintricher Herrgott, the Roman wine press in Piesport and numerous beautiful distant views. The special thing about this hike: if the hiker observes the current ship timetables, you can enjoy the way back from a completely different perspective: on board an excursion boat from the water. A perfect combination!There are refreshment stops in individual places such as Osann-Monzel, Kesten and Piesport. Along the route there are also rest areas and benches that are particularly suitable for a rest with beautiful views.

The ship hiking trail begins in the center of Osann, at the Catholic parish church. From there you hike on the Moselle road from Monzel to Kesten. As the road winds down the mountain, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the wine town of Kesten, the Moselle meadows and the Brauneberger and Wintricher vineyards.On the hike through the center of Monzel you will pass “Quereinhäuser”. These historic farmhouses and farmhouses were built mainly in the Classicist period around 1815 and can still be found in some wine towns on the Moselle.Go downhill to the town of Kesten, which has been protected from the whims of the river by a flood protection dam for several years. The townscape of Kesten is characterized by medieval half-timbered houses, old wine yards and wineries from various monasteries and monasteries. The slender church tower of the parish church of St. Georg stands out between the houses.Once in Kesten, the ship's hiking trail takes you on the second street on the right - at the Eiermarkt - through a residential area. It is quieter than on the main road below, until the path takes you in a right-hand curve into the vineyard and forest landscape above the village. The path goes slightly uphill and leads to the Dreisbach, which rises not far away and flows into the Moselle at the Dreismühle. In the Dreisbach valley there is a Roman Sauerbrunnen (mineral fountain), a water treading basin and a grill hut. Again the path turns downhill from Moselle to Weg. On the sloping path you can enjoy the view of the wine village of Wintrich with the vineyard "Wintricher Großer Herrgott" and the imposing stone cross of the same name high up on a rock.You head towards the wine village of Piesport via an agricultural path through the vineyards below the forest area. All of a sudden - when you cross a district road - the view of the wine village is granted. To get back into the valley, follow the switchbacks that wind through the vineyards down to the banks of the Moselle.In ancient times, there was a Roman wine press here, one of two discovered in Piesport. Along the shore, the path leads you to the idyllic houses of Alt-Piesport and the Rococo church of St. Michael. There you cross the bridge driveway and reach the Ausoniusufer, where the hike ends at the pier.The ship hiking trail bears its name because there is the possibility of a boat trip at its destination. Ship jetties are located in Kesten and in the Piesport districts "Alt-Piesport" and "Reinsport" (Important: the ship connections do not exist on every weekday, information about the departure times of the Moselle ships can be found at www.mosel-personenschifffahrt.de and www.kolb -mosel.de).
