Mountains, Castles, Basalt & Strong Legs
The route requires good fitness & fun with constant elevation changes from the Ahr over the Vulkaneifel to the Moselle valley. The long climb over Adenau up to Nürburg is a challenge. Here is the Nürburgring 'home' and the ruined Nürburg sits on an extinct volcano. Panoramic views are available from there or on the detour (4 km) near Adenau from the Hohe Acht, the highest mountain in the Eifel at 747 meters. With fresh wind at your back, you pass the Ulmener Maar, the youngest of the Eifel maars, and enjoy endless stretches of cultivated fields, meadows, and forests. From the Lutzerather height, the final descent leads into the spa town Bad Bertrich with Germany's only Glauber's salt thermal bath.

Note:
The Vulkan-Rad-Route is not entirely asphalted and therefore cannot be ridden with a racing bike.
This breathtaking route with the climb to Nürburg and the rapid descent to Bad Bertrich offers both fun and challenge for sporty ambitious cyclists.
Bus
Between Ulmen and Cochem runs the RadBus Eifel-Mosel line 777.

The RadBus Moseltal line 333 runs between Trier and Bullay.
