On the route, you walk in the footsteps of the Celts, visit a Roman theater, the cemetery of honor, and of course the famous Klause, one of the most important cultural monuments on the Saar!
From Trier, you reach Kastel-Staadt via the B 51 toward Saarburg and continue via Trassem (B 407) toward Freudenburg to the Kastel-Staadt exit.
Free parking in front of the Klause (end of König-Johann-Straße, 54441 Kastel-Staadt).
The tour begins at the visitor car park in front of the Klause and leads past the Roman theatre and the cemetery of honour to the Klause state monument. From the cross in the military cemetery, there is a unique view far into the Saar Valley and a first glimpse of the Klause.
A visit to the Klause is definitely worth planning.
From 1 April to 31 October 2026, the monument is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In July and August, it is open until 5 p.m. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing time!
Open guided tours are offered from 1 April to 31 October 2026 on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. and on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. (no tours from 4 May to 18 May 2026).
A detour to the Elisensitz offers another view of the Saar and the Altfels.
Continue along a gravel path to the Keltenwall before returning to your starting point at the old Schinkelschule via König-Johann-Straße.
The path leads over asphalt, field paths, and partly trails. Especially in the Klause, sure-footedness is required due to stairs and steep slopes.
