The Weitblick Loop connects the wine-growing villages of Platten, Osann-Monzel, and Maring-Noviand over a distance of 14.7 kilometers. As a loop on the Maare-Mosel Bike Trail, it winds through the typical Moselle landscape of vineyards, fields, and beautiful panoramic views of the region. Along the way, wine-growing villages invite you to stop and relax, while scenic stretches of the route continually offer new perspectives on the cultural landscape. This varied tour is ideal for leisure cyclists who want to combine nature, exercise, and the Mosel wine region.
Platten is easily accessible via the surrounding federal highways. Coming from Wittlich, take the B50 and then the L53 to Platten. Coming from Bernkastel-Kues, also take the B50 and then turn onto the L53 toward Platten.
You can find all the information you need about traveling by bus or train at www.vrt-info.de or www.bahn.de.
From the L53, Bahnhofstraße is signposted within the town and easy to reach. Both hikers and cyclists will find parking there.
The Weitblick Loop begins in Platten and initially follows the route of the Pilgrimage Loop toward Osann-Monzel. Along scenic trails through the vineyard landscape, beautiful views of the Moselle and Lieser valleys open up time and again. Between Osann-Monzel and Maring-Noviand, vineyards, fields, and sweeping panoramas define the landscape. The region is known for its impressive views of the surrounding valleys and vineyards. In Maring-Noviand, the route passes through the village and then joins the Maare-Mosel Bike Trail. From there, the tour follows the former railroad right-of-way of the Maare-Mosel Bike Trail back to Platten.
The bike path crosses the federal highway just past Maring-Noviand. Please exercise extreme caution when crossing the road. Watch for oncoming traffic, cross the street only when you have a clear view, and follow all applicable traffic rules.
No special equipment is required.
Along the route, you'll find plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat, offering culinary specialties.
