A fruit that is deeply rooted in the region thrives along the Moselle: the Mosel vineyard peach. With its rich, red-fleshed interior and unmistakable aroma, it delights locals and visitors alike.
As far back as Roman times, the fruit – which originally hails from China – found its way via Persia to the Mosel, where it took root successfully. Today, there are around 10,000 vineyard peach trees – most of them in the Cochem-Zell district, along the picturesque river bends between Cochem and Reil.
A sea of pink blossoms
The Mosel region offers a truly special natural spectacle in spring, when the vineyard peach trees are in bloom. From late March to early April, the bright pink blossoms transform the steep vineyard slopes into a colourful sea of flowers for around two weeks. This time of year attracts nature lovers, photographers and walkers alike, who come to explore the slopes and admire the splendour of the blossoms.

The mild temperatures and the reawakening of nature make hiking in spring a special experience.
A highly recommended walk at this time of year is the vineyard peach blossom walk from Ediger-Eller via Bremm to Neef. The seven-kilometre route takes you past blossoming peach orchards, and walkers are treated to constant views of the Calmont, Europe’s steepest vineyard, along the way. Local wineries and nature guides offer guided tours through the sea of blossoms and invite you to enjoy the first rays of sunshine at their estates.
Along the Moselsteig too, on Stage 15 from Zell (Mosel) to Neef and Stage 16 from Neef to Ediger-Eller, you’ll be greeted in spring by pink blossoms that glow like delicate splashes of colour across the landscape.

Every year, the vineyard peach is celebrated with special festivals along the Moselle. In spring, the Blossom Market in Cochem attracts numerous visitors. Here, local producers showcase their wide range of vineyard peach products. Visitors can sample the culinary delights and try regional specialities such as jams, liqueurs and wines.
Late summer brings the harvest season, when the dark red fruits are ripe. The harvest is then celebrated in many places, such as at the MoselWeinbergPfirsich Harvest Market in Cochem, where freshly picked peaches are processed and sold on the spot.
Whether on a walk through the blossoming slopes, whilst visiting the blossom market or whilst enjoying fresh peach products – the vineyard peach is a real highlight and certainly a delightful souvenir to bring home for your loved ones.

The Moselle vineyard peach is far more than just a tasty fruit – it forms the basis of numerous regional specialities. Fruity liqueurs, which perfectly capture the peach’s intense aroma, are particularly popular. Fine brandies and secco with a hint of vineyard peach are also among the special treats.
As well as drinks, it is above all jams, jellies and chutneys that bring out the fruit’s rich sweetness and acidity to perfection. When paired with game, cheese or savoury dishes, the vineyard peach adds a sophisticated touch. Sweet desserts, such as vineyard peach cake or sorbet, also delight with their vibrant colour and distinctive flavour.
