Travelling by train, bus and boat
The Mosel Valley is well served by local public transport. The VRT (Verkehrsverbund Region Trier) transport authority is responsible for the area from Perl to Bullay, whilst the VRM (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel) covers the route from Bullay to Koblenz. Together, they ensure a well-organised network of bus and train services that regularly serve many towns and villages along the Mosel and Saar Cycle Paths.
Rail
Local public transport has also been fully adapted to the needs of cyclists. You can easily take your bike on the train line between Koblenz and Perl. Bikes can be carried free of charge from 9.00 am on Mondays to Fridays, and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Before 9.00 am, you must purchase a bicycle ticket (day ticket) for local transport in accordance with the applicable fares set by DB or the regional transport associations. Bicycles may be carried subject to available capacity.
Please note: Bicycles cannot be carried when rail replacement services (SEV) are in operation. Please check for any current timetable changes, train cancellations and the operation of rail replacement services.

If you’d rather not bring your own bike, there are plenty of bike hire stations along the Mosel where you can hire one. Well-prepared for your bike tour along the Mosel
Along the Moselle, Saar, and Ruwer rivers, you’ll find numerous certified Bett+Bike hosts who are fully geared toward meeting the needs of cyclists. This includes, among other things, secure parking for your bike, tools for minor repairs, and informational materials to help you plan your routes. This is especially convenient for multi-day cycling tours: At Bett+Bike hosts, you can book a stay for just one night—ideal if you want to change your lodging regularly during your cycling trip.
There are around 60 certified bike-friendly establishments in the Mosel-Saar region.
You can plan a cycling trip along the Mosel on your own or book a packaged cycling tour. With an organized tour, the individual services are already bundled and arranged for you—depending on the package, these may include, for example, accommodations, route planning, and luggage transport.
On cycling trips along the Mosel Cycle Route, luggage transfer from one accommodation to the next is available. This service is offered downstream along the Moselle, that is, from Perl toward Koblenz. This way, you can enjoy your multi-day cycling tour without having to carry your luggage on your bike.
On a multi-day bike tour, you can take a bus, train, or boat for the return trip. This allows you to plan your bike tour flexibly as a one-way trip without having to bike back to the starting point.
Check in advance for schedules and options for transporting your bike. Depending on the route, time of day, and capacity, you can transport your bike on the train completely free of charge. Ferries along the Moselle also carry bikes and cyclists across the river and can be easily incorporated into a cycling tour. During the season, additional bike buses are also available on many bike paths.
If you’d rather not bring your own bike, there are numerous bike rental shops along the Moselle, Saar, and Ruwer rivers. They typically offer standard bicycles, e-bikes, and pedelecs. Some also offer a delivery service to your desired starting or ending point, or the option to return the bike at a different location. This allows you to plan your bike tour flexibly without having to transport the bike yourself. If you feel like taking a spontaneous bike trip through the vineyards, to castles and fortresses, or into the side valleys of the Mosel, an e-bike or pedelec lets you explore even hilly routes at a leisurely pace —after all, the only breathtaking thing about your cycling vacation should be the view of the countryside.
If you ever need to make a repair while out on the road, you’ll find bike repair shops and bike-friendly service stations along the Mosel. In addition to bike shops, there are also numerous bike service stations along the bike paths where you can perform minor repairs yourself. Especially on longer bike tours, it’s worth checking in advance where bike shops are located along your planned route.
