The Mosel is on fire

“Die Mosel brennt (The Mosel is on fire)” is the name of the Distillers’ Day held throughout the Mosel region, when, every year on the third weekend in October, the regional distilleries open their doors and gates to locals and visitors along the Moselle. Through a range of attractive activities, such as farmyard festivals with distillery tours, tasting sessions and a selection of typical Mosel culinary specialities to complement the Mosel brandy, visitors can discover and sample the distilleries’ products.

The cultural landscape of the Mosel region has been shaped for several centuries not only by viticulture but also by the art of distilling. As a traditional cultural heritage of the region, distilling as such must be preserved and promoted accordingly as a tourist attraction. As part of its 2021 theme year  ‘Gourmet Delights & Culinary Arts’, the regional initiative “Faszination Mosel” invited Mosel distillers for the first time, to take part in the project "Die Mosel brennt (The Mosel is on fire)’ – an event for fine fruit distillers that has been held on the Luxembourg side of the Moselle for many years. Across the border, distillers can thus showcase their products, get to know one another, exchange ideas and build networks.
