Moselsteig Partner Trails

Moselsteig Seitensprünge and Traumpfade

Do you prefer circular walks to multi-stage hikes? Then the Moselsteig’s partner trails are just the thing for you, as they all lead you back to the starting point.

The side trails along the Upper and Middle Mosel – or the ‘Traumpfade’, as they’re known in the Terraced Mosel region – are just as varied as the Moselsteig stages: some are long, some short; some easy, some challenging to walk. The ‘Traumpfädchen’ are a special feature: they are designed as particularly easy and short walking trails.

All the Moselsteig side trails and Mosel ‘Traumpfade’ (Dream Trails) and ‘Traumpfädchen’ (Little Dream Trails) also meet the criteria for premium trails and have been awarded the German Hiking Seal.

Signposting and wayfinding

The Moselsteig and its partner trails are rightly regarded as ‘impossible to get lost on’. The consistent and uniform signposting ensures that you always stay on the right track, even without a hiking map or app. As circular walking routes, the partner trails reliably lead you back to the starting point and are signposted in both directions. The signposting is supplemented by access routes from town centres, hiking car parks or public transport stops, allowing you to join the walks at your convenience.

FAQ on the Moselsteig partner trails

Answers to frequently asked questions

The Moselsteig is a long-distance walking route that follows the Moselle over 24 stages. The Moselsteig partner trails, on the other hand, are designed as circular routes and lead back to the starting point. Due to their varying lengths, they are ideal for half-day or day trips, as well as for walks starting from a fixed holiday base. Depending on the region, they are known as Moselsteig ‘Seitensprünge’, ‘Traumpfade’ or, in their shorter versions, ‘Traumpfädchen’.

All Moselsteig partner trails have been awarded the German Hiking Seal as premium trails and therefore meet high quality standards. The assessment criteria include the trail layout, landscape and nature, culture, places of interest and the signposting system. To ensure that quality is maintained in the long term, the circular routes are inspected regularly.

For you, this means you can count on varied, well-maintained trails, reliable signposting and a special hiking experience.

All Moselsteig partner trails are signposted on the ground, so you can stay on the right track entirely without relying on a map whilst you’re hiking. Simply follow the logo of the relevant partner trail. Detailed route information is available on our website to help you plan your hike. You can also find the official routes via the Rhineland-Palatinate Route Planner and on Komoot. There, all Moselsteig side trails, ‘Traumpfade’ and ‘Traumpfädchen’ are grouped together in a dedicated hiking collection.

No, not necessarily, as many of the Moselsteig partner trails offer several starting points. The recommended starting points are often located at hiking car parks or are directly accessible by public transport. As the trails are designed as circular walks, you can plan your hike to suit your preferences depending on your chosen starting point, and the walk will end back at the starting point. You’ll find information on the starting points and how to get there in the relevant route description.

The short and easy Moselsteig partner trails are particularly well suited to families. The ‘Traumpfädchen’ trails are especially appealing due to their short distance and easy route. When choosing a trail, you should also take into account the children’s age and fitness levels, as well as the terrain.

Many Moselsteig partner trails offer special activities for families. On the ‘Traumpfädchen’, for example, children can collect stamps for Freddy’s hiking book, turning their walks into a little journey of discovery. On other Moselsteig partner trails, life in the Middle Ages or the Stone Age is brought back to life.

In general, you can reach all the partner trails by bus or train. The walks often start right at a railway station or bus stop. If not, there is a signposted access route from the nearest station that will take you to the starting point. You’ll always find information on how to get there and parking options in the respective walk descriptions.
