With the RegioRadler Moseltal you can, for example, let yourself be accompanied by the bus on a bike tour along the Mosel riverbank. Between Trier and Bullay, the bus company Moselbahn line follows the Mosel route via Ruwer, Schweich, Mehring, Leiwen, Neumagen, Bernkastel-Kues, and Traben.
Up to 22 bicycles can be taken on the bike trailer. The three daily trips in each direction can be used in the morning, midday, and afternoon, making half-day tours conveniently possible. Along the RegioRadler Moseltal you have connections in many towns to the Mosel route Trier – Koblenz, in Trier to train lines in all directions, and in Bullay to the Moselle Wine Railway towards Traben-Trarbach.

Leiwen - through Urbanusstraße, turn left past Urbanshof
from all other towns via the Mosel bike path to the mentioned entry points
Opposite the Mehring sports field, the route leads through the street Am Sportplatz 150 m out of town into the vineyards. From here, the route steadily climbs and reaches the entrance to Route 3 at the edge of the forest. With a consistent gradient, height is quickly gained, allowing beautiful views over the Mosel valley. Halfway up, the district road is crossed, and shortly after a second time ( Entry Mehringer Höhe ) before reaching the well-known observation tower "Five Lakes Viewpoint". (Climbing is worth it!) Shortly after, it passes the Detzem BBQ hut, then left onto a wide service road that can be enjoyed rolling between forest and meadow towards Detzem.
Upon entering the forest, separation into
Route 3: continues straight down to the valley-side forest edge, where at the wayside cross turn right ( Entry Detzem ) (1 km, ascent: 0 m, descent: 69 m) and
Route 3+: turns left downhill in wide bends on a gravel forest path to the vineyards, then a steep climb back to the normal route (2.7 km, ascent: 141 m, descent: 210 m) at the wayside cross above Detzem.
High above the Mosel valley between forest and vines with slight ups and downs to Brachberg, from there a pleasure descent to the edge of Leiwen ( Entry Leiwen ). On an almost flat route through the vineyards towards Bachtal, first on asphalt, later on gravel uphill until a left turn past the fish pond, then winding upward to the Sonnenberg holiday village. From there downhill, initially towards Zummeter Höhe, 500 m before turn right down into the Dhron valley. The descent ends immediately at the state road (caution!), which must be crossed.
Along the "Little Dhron" and the Dhron valley dam, the route goes uphill to Büdlich, from there about 1 km on the district road downhill back to the "Little Dhron." Upon reaching the stream, turn left onto a field path between forest and stream, then meadow and forest. The route leads over the crossing path and an old bridge to the road, then downhill to the junction of the road from Naurath. Here the Dhron valley is left and continues with a long but moderate ascent, first on asphalt, then on forest paths, to the heights of Neumehring, where the highest point at 460 m above sea level is reached.
Before, the highway and then the district road are crossed, and a well-developed forest path through a large deciduous forest complex is followed. A single trail, many changes of direction, climbs and descents make the path quite varied. Upon reaching the state road, the route follows it about 500 m to the left before turning right at the Thick Oak into the forest, across fields and back into the forest. Soon the routes split:
Route 3 , right to the Kaster hut high above the Mosel valley (0.5 km, ascent: 0 m, descent: 14 m) and
Route 3+ , left downhill in wide bends, later a sharp right turn single trail descent to the vineyards of Fell and then a gentle climb back to the Kaster hut (3 km, ascent: 74 m, descent: 88 m)
From here, the route goes through almost flat terrain to the next descent, which with
Route 3 leads down a wide forest way towards Mehring (1.2 km, ascent: 0 m, descent: 112 m) and with
Route 3+ on an old, steep winding trail as a single trail downhill (0.7 km, ascent: 2 m, descent: 114 m) to the edge of the forest above Mehring. After crossing the district road, the trail follows the path between forest and vines until the route closes after about a kilometer.
Nature and mountain biking
It is the greatest happiness for mountain bikers to enjoy the charms of nature and landscape, the silence of the forests, and the diversity of open countryside far from the traffic noise of busy roads, even off heavily frequented bike paths.
The use of nature, whether as a lone touring cyclist or as a member of a training group, must be accompanied by the awareness that misbehavior can cause damage to forest and fields, flora and fauna.
Reasonable general behavior and a few basic rules ensure that mountain biking does not become a nuisance.
The mountain bike trail park in Mehring has offered a mega experience since 2013, making every mountain biker’s heart beat faster.
