A covered wagon ride through the vineyards
A real classic with a special charm is a covered wagon ride through the vineyards. On a comfortable, (mostly) covered wagon, you travel through the steep vineyards whilst listening to fascinating and personal stories about viticulture, the region and the people.
Of course, a wine tasting is an essential part of the experience – accompanied by magnificent views over the Mosel Valley.
Historical Underworlds
Many places along the Mosel harbour fascinating underground worlds consisting of historic wine cellars and vaults. Numerous wineries have centuries-old cellars where Mosel wine was traditionally stored and matured – and in some cases still is. Guided cellar tours allow you to discover these special places whilst gaining fascinating insights into the region’s wine and trading history.
The underground wine cellars in the town of Traben-Trarbach are particularly impressive. At the end of the 19th century, the town was one of Europe’s most important centres for the wine trade. Historic wine cellars can also be found in Trier, for example at the Vereinigte Hospitien winery, whose vaulted cellar is considered to be the oldest in Germany.
