Experience nature and discover the biodiversity of the Mosel

The well-being of the unique vineyard habitat and its biodiversity is a key concern for the “Lebendige Moselweinberge” initiative. Its special project, “Beacons of Biodiversity”, brings together sites that showcase the rich variety of plant and animal species and their characteristic habitats. These biodiversity hotspots can be found throughout the Mosel region and are easily accessible via local footpaths. Information boards on site provide details about the distinctive features of each site and its biological characteristics.

Biodiversity Week

Every year in May, the ‘Biodiversity Rocks the Mosel’ theme week takes place – a special event that focuses on protecting biodiversity in the Mosel region and, through a host of fantastic events, raises awareness of the importance of biological diversity in nature.

The vibrant vineyards of the Mosel

The “Lebendige Moselweinberge” initiative, founded in 2013, brings together all activities relating to the vineyard ecosystem and draws attention to the exceptional flora and fauna found in the vineyards. The project is co-ordinated by the Mosel Rural Service Centre (DLR). It has been recognised by the UN Decade on Biodiversity for its contribution to the preservation of the wine-growing landscape.
